Maddie Mastro is just a few days shy of her 18th birthday, but she displayed the wisdom of someone much older with just one inspirational tweet on Tuesday night.
The young American snowboarder had a disappointing end to her Olympic debut, crashing out three times in the women’s halfpipe to finish 12th out of 12 women in the finals. Mastro put her head into her hands after her final fall off a 1080, briefly creating a perfect “agony of defeat” image for an Associated Press photographer.
One day later, Mastro used that photo to post an “I’ll be back stronger than ever” tweet.
“The sun will rise and again and I’ll try again,” Mastro wrote, referencing a Twenty One Pilots song.

Mastro said she’ll see the Olympics in four years and, given her talent level, it’s a good bet she’ll be back. Judging from her comments, she’ll also bring back plenty of fans who were impressed with the challenging tricks that she attempted.

Even though @maddie_mastro didn't make the podium, I think she truly represented the American spirit of competing and giving your all, even when it would be easy to play safe and not give your best.
