MacCollister has big game for Ada boys

Feb. 14—Ada senior Devon MacCollister saved one of his best outings of the season for Senior Night Monday inside the Cougar Activity Center.

MacCollister scored a game-high 26 points and also had three rebounds, three assists, and three steals to help the Cougars sock Seminole 68-30.

Coach Kyle Caufield's club ranked No. 9 in Class 4A, improved to 17-6 on the year after Monday's regular-season finale. Seminole left town at 8-14.

Now, the Cougars head to Tuttle on Saturday to battle the host Tigers for a Class 4A District championship. Tip-off for that contest is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Cougars, who defeated Seminole 59-46 in a Jan. 12 road game, made this meeting a runaway with a big second quarter.

The Chieftains led 7-5 early after a 3-pointer from Austin Smith. But Ada outscored the visitors 12-5 to end the first period and take a 17-12 lead. During that stretch, the Cougars got a roar from the student section when MacCollister lofted a pass to teammate Carter Colombe who turned the assist into a two-handed dunk. Caron Richardson also hammered down a nice one-handed slam after a steal and assist from Deante Lindsay.

Ada scored the first five points of the second period — three by Colombe and two when MacCollister grabbed a rebound and went coast-to-coast for a layup — to quickly push its lead to double figures at 22-12.

MacCollister ended the first half by burying back-to-back 24-foot 3-point baskets and the Cougars led 34-16 at halftime. Seminole made just one basket in the second period, going 1-of-9 from the field.

MacCollister scored 19 of his 26 points in the first half, including a steal and dunk of his own.

Ada engineered a 15-0 surge in the third quarter and watched its lead balloon to 49-18. During that stretch, George Maddox made a pair of baskets, Tremain Gray scored all five of his points and Colombe dunked the ball after taking an inbounds pass.

Ada reserves helped lead a 15-4 Cougar charge to end the game. Brock Boyles scored four points down the stretch, Lakievin Richardson had a steal, and layup Isaiah James drove down the lane for an easy basket.

No other Cougar besides MacCollister reached double figures but a total of 12 Ada players reached the scoring column.

Colombe had a solid, all-around game with nine points, six steals, and three blocked shots.

Senior Carter Kenley was the only other player to make a 3-point shot and he sank his triple to begin the game. Fisher Marr ended up with four points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Cougars.

Seminole got a double-double from Jay Ladd, who finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He made 6-of-9 free throws and one 3-pointer.
