"Sensational" Alexis Mac Allister was the reason Liverpool came away with the win against Brighton, according former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer.

The midfielder was heavily involved throughout the 2-1 victory and provided the assist for Mohamed Salah's winner.

Speaking on BBC Match Of The Day 2, Shearer said: "There is an understanding from both Mac Allister and Salah. Mac Allister was no doubt the most outstanding player on the pitch, he was incredible.

"Everything that was good about Liverpool went through Mac Allister. His passing was superb, his confidence was unbelievable, [he had] the flicks and tricks.

"He was driving his team forward on so many occasions. He was absolutely magnificent.

"What a signing he has been, he is having a great season. He was absolutely sensational [against Brighton] playing slightly higher up the pitch. Those three points that they got, I know Salah got the goal but a lot of it was down to him."

Ex-Brighton forward Glenn Murray, who played with the Argentina international during his time with the Seagulls, feels Mac Allister is "under appreciated".

"I think Liverpool fans are starting to see the best of him now," he added. "Since the Asia Cup and Endo dropping into that number six, he is playing further forward and building those relationships with the likes of Salah.

"In the big moments he has stepped up. He did it for Brighton, has done it for Argentina and now is doing it for Liverpool too."
