BYU opened the season with a win on the road in SEC territory, defeating the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa by a score of 1-0. The Cougars came out strong, pressing the Tide in their half. After a couple incomplete early crosses, the Cougars finally found someone in the box. Junior Mikayla Colohan took the ball at the top of the box and finished past Alabama goalkeeper Alex Plavin in the 9th minute. Alabama settled into the match after the Cougars' early opener, and pressed BYU high into the Cougars' defensive third.
