On March 25, 2018, Phillies fans burgeoned with excitement at the news that Scott Kingery, the 24 year old middle infielder who had set Clearwater on fire throughout the month of March would not report to AAA Lehigh Valley. Bucking the tradition of limiting service time, the Phillies and Scotty Jetpacks agreed to a 6 year, 24 million dollar contract, which with the exercise of club options could keep him in red pinstripes through the 2026 season. Despite the fan excitement and the "Pedroia but with more talent" superlatives, 2018 turned out to be awful for Scott Kingery. A disappointing April was followed by an abysmal May and the summer didn't get any better as Kingery seemed lost at the plate.
