Steven Matz was excellent against the second-best lineup in the National League. The southpaw held the Braves to one run on two hits with six strikeouts and one walk over six innings and 102 pitches. Matz retired 15 of the last 16 batters he faced and appeared fresh enough to pitch another inning, but Mets manager Mickey Callaway went to his bullpen. The skipper cited a recurring blister on Matz's middle finger as the reason he was yanked after six innings.
