Diaz entered the seventh inning on a clean slate with a 5-2 Mets' lead. Too many times this year Diaz has walked the leadoff batter, only for it to come back to bite him. The 25-year-old issued a leadoff walk to Alex Blandino, struck out Philip Ervin, then walked Joey Votto to bring the tying run to the plate. Phil Regan mosied out of the dugout to have a chat with Diaz and whatever the 82-year-old pitching coach said, worked. Diaz struck out Suarez and Aristedes Aquino to end the inning.
