CLEVELAND, Ohio — This year's Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year award in the American League went to Houston slugger Yordan Alvarez, but it is hard to find an AL rookie that contributed more to his team's success in 2019 than Cleveland Indians outfielder Oscar Mercado. That's not to say Alvarez and his glowing 1.067 OPS and 5.0 WAR doesn't deserve the award.
