An offensive surge in the final month of the season, a hitting spree triggered by ditching his leg kick, has enabled Garrett Hampson to solidify his role as a dependable utility player for the Rockies. Hampson, who turns 25 on Oct. 10, began the season with the Rockies, the first time he made an Opening Day roster. He was briefly optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque in May and again in June before being recalled June 23 for the balance of the season. For much of that period, Hampson floundered until late last month when the Rockies were in St. Louis.
