Matt DerrickOct 22, 2019 KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Undrafted rookie quarterback Kyle Shurmur will backup starter Matt Moore for the Chiefs this week against Green Bay with a knee injury keeping Patrick Mahomes on the sideline. The Chiefs promoted Shurmur to the active roster from the practice squad on Tuesday. The club also signed defensive tackle Mike Pennel while releasing wide receiver De'Anthony Thomas and defensive tackle Terrell McClain. Shurmur signed with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent from Vanderbilt. His 8,865 passing yards and 64 touchdown passes in his career eclipsed school records previously held by Jay Cutler. During the preseason, Shurmur completed 33-of-56 passing for 316 yards
