The Mets landed ex-Giant Joe Panik because Robinson Cano (hamstring) and Jed Lowrie (too many injuries to list) were shelved, and now comes word the Mets could have three second basemen in September. Lowrie began a rehab assignment Tuesday with Class A Port St. Lucy, and Cano is taking batting practice and fielding grounders and got approval to run. Who knows what would happen with three second basemen, but if everyone is healthy, Cano could get the nod. Before he was hurt in early August, he was 9-for-15 with a homer and four doubles in four games.
