After being drafted in the fifth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017, Kane County Cougars third baseman Buddy Kennedy picked up a nickname in the Arizona Rookie League. The Millville, N.J. native pounded out 17 extra-base hits in his first 50 professional games that summer, earning him the moniker of “Buddy Barrels.” “I got that name when I first got drafted,” Kennedy said. “I had a good debut in the AZL. I just try to hit the ball hard.” He carried that through a strong season last year with rookie level Missoula, where he hit .327 in 57 games.
