Luke Goedeke brings ‘controlled rage’ to Bucs’ offensive line
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded up in the second round of the 2022 NFL draft to make sure they landed Central Michigan offensive lineman Luke Goedeke, and his playing style should be a perfect fit for his new position group.
Speaking to the media after Saturday’s rookie minicamp session, Goedeke talked about his penchant for trash-talking, as well as the physical style of play he exhibits on the field.
“I’ll throw in a few little word-jabs here and there,” Goedeke said. “I mean, if the refs start saying something, then I’ll stop. [With] my play-style, I like to play with what I like to call ‘controlled rage.’ I don’t like to push my limits too far where it draws penalties, obviously, because that’s just detrimental to the team. Like you said, it’s teetering on a fine line. I believe I play just on the good side of that line where I don’t draw very many penalties whatsoever.”
That style should make him feel right at home next to the likes of Bucs Pro Bowl center Ryan Jensen, as Goedeke competes with incumbents Aaron Stinnie, Robert Hainsey and Nick Leverett for the starting left guard job vacated by Ali Marpet’s surprising retirement this offseason.
