Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said today that pitcher Luis Severino will likely need “six or more” weeks before he’ll be ready to return to game action.
Severino has been out all season due to lat and shoulder issues. He may resume throwing as early as next week, but they are obviously not rushing him. Nor do they need to given the Yankees’ six and a half game lead in the Al East. When Severino does come back, Cashman suggested that he might be used as a limited 75-pitch starter or see action out of the bullpen.
Last year Severino went 19-8 in 32 starts, posting a 3.39 ERA across 191.1 innings.
