Lucroy spoils Pujols' milestone as A's outlast Angels in 11

Jonathan Lucroy upstaged Albert Pujols' 625th career home run with a walk-off single with one out in the bottom of the 11th inning Sunday afternoon, giving the Oakland Athletics a come-from-behind, 6-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels in Oakland, Calif.

The game-winning uprising came after the A's scored two runs in the last of the ninth to erase a 5-3 deficit and force extra innings.

Jed Lowrie led off the 11th with a single off the Angels' fifth pitcher, right-hander Jake Jewell (0-1).

After Khris Davis was hit by a pitch, Lowrie advanced to third on Matt Olson's fly to center field.

Eduardo Paredes then came on and walked Mark Canha to load the bases, after which Lucroy launched a shot off the base of the fence in center field, giving the A's their fourth walk-off win of the season.

The A's also had a walk-off win against the Angels in a 6-5 victory on Opening Day.

A's closer Blake Treinen (4-1) was credited with the win after pitching two shutout innings, striking out three.

Left-hander Andrew Heaney dealt eight strong innings for the Angels and stood to win his fourth game of the season until closer Blake Parker couldn't hold a 5-3 lead in the ninth.

Marcus Semien led off the ninth with his seventh homer of the season to get the A's within one.

Parker then issued walks to Chad Pinder and Davis, sandwiching a strikeout, before left-hander Jose Alvarez came on to strike out Olson for the second out.

But Canha then blooped a single to center off right-hander Cam Bedrosian, tying the game and leading to extra innings.

Pujols' homer led off the sixth inning against A's starter Daniel Mengden. It was his 11th of the season and moved him within five of Ken Griffey Jr., who totaled 630 homers in his career, for sixth place on the all-time list.

Pujols also drove in a run with a single in the third, capping a two-run inning that began with Chris Young's fifth homer of the season, a solo shot.

The runs allowed the Angels to draw even after Canha had belted a two-run home run in the second, his eighth of the year.

Canha had two hits and three RBIs, while Lowrie added a pair of hits for the A's, who salvaged a split of their 10-game homestand.

Mengden went the first 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and six hits. He walked three and struck out two.

Pujols, Ian Kinsler and Mike Trout had two hits apiece for the Angels, who lost for the sixth time in seven games, capping a 3-6 trip.

The walk-off loss was the Angels' fourth of the season and their second of the week, having suffered a last-pitch, 8-6 defeat at Seattle on Wednesday night.
