LSU takes Game 1 against Mississippi State with dominating run-rule win

After dropping their first SEC series of the year last weekend, the Tigers decided not to play with their food in Game 1 against Mississippi State.

LSU drew first blood and scored four runs in the first two innings as Gavin Dugas, Brayden Jobert, and Jordan Thompson all hit homers to get the Tigers out to a 5-0 lead.

The game stayed that way until the top of the sixth inning when the Bulldogs scored their only run of the game on a solo homer to left field off of Paul Skenes. LSU answered that run with three of their own as Dylan Crews walked with bases loaded, Tommy White hit an RBI single, and Cade Beloso hit a sacrifice fly to score Tre Morgan and make it 8-1 LSU.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, LSU scored four more runs as they secured a run-rule victory in Game 1 by a 12-1 clip. Morgan hit a two-RBI single and White followed that with a two-run homer to walk it off.

Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at Alex Box Stadium.
