Will LSU play Derek Stingley Jr. on offense in 2021?

The LSU Tigers are used to having some of the best defensive back talent in the nation, and this year’s team will be no different, as Derek Stingley Jr. is widely regarded as the top cornerback prospect in the country.

Stingley is so athletic and talented that he might end up getting some snaps on the other side of the ball this year.

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron admitted that Stingley will be given the option to get some snaps on offense this season (via WWL.com):

That’s up to him. We’ve discussed that. He may try a little offense in fall camp, see how it works. Obviously, we’d like to use him, but that’s totally up to him. I gave him that opportunity, and him and his daddy agreed. He’s spent two years playing corner. He’s ready.

Stingley is already projected as a potential top-five pick in the 2022 NFL draft at corner, but making some big plays on offense could make him a dark-horse candidate for the Heisman Trophy, assuming he continues to shut down opposing receivers with regularity.
