LSU baseball falls again in On3’s SEC power rankings after Florida series loss

It’s not exactly panic time yet for the defending champion LSU baseball team, but the Tigers are certainly reeling after a pair of series losses to start SEC play.

They dropped their opener on the road against Mississippi State before falling at home to Florida this past weekend. In both series, coach Jay Johnson’s team was run-ruled in a Game 3 rubber match.

As a result, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see LSU take another tumble in this week’s SEC baseball power rankings from On3’s Jonathan Wagner.

Wagner had the Tigers third in the league last week, and now they’re falling two more spots to No. 5.

LSU started the week with a pair of victories, winning 11-1 against Louisiana Tech on Tuesday and 6-1 in Friday’s series opener against Florida. Unfortunately for the Tigers, it was the Gators that took the next two games, 6-4 on Saturday and 12-2 on Sunday, to take the series. LSU has now lost two straight series to open SEC play, and drop in our baseball power rankings as a result.

With relief pitching struggling on the weekend, the road doesn’t get any easier for LSU as it travels to face the No. 1 Arkansas Razorbacks next weekend. First, however, the Tigers have what should be a tuneup in the midweek against Southeastern Louisiana on Tuesday night.
