Louisiana softball takes care of Omaha, advances to face LSU in Baton Rouge Regional final

BATON ROUGE – Start of the game may have been delayed by 75 minutes due to inclement weather in the area. Louisiana softball, however, was not delayed on its different plate approach than in its first game of the day.

The Ragin' Cajuns scored two quick runs in the top of the first en route to rolling over Omaha, 9-0, Saturday night in five innings in the losers bracket game of the Baton Rouge Regional at Tiger Park.

Sophie Piskos, Lauren Allred provide Power Hour for Louisiana softball

No one has been seeing the ball as well as Sophie Piskos the last few weeks. She's been creaming the ball, just right at defenders. But now, she's finding the open spaces and making teams pay.

Piskos went 2-for-3 with a two-run single, a double and a sacrifice for her third RBI against the Mavs. Freshman Lauren Allred behind her in the lineup had a two-run double.

UL opened things up, piling up 12 hits off Omaha's Sydney Nuismer, who was getting her first NCAA regional start to her career. Cajuns senior Karly Heath and sophomore Maddie Hayden each had two hits while eight had at least one hit.

Kandra Lamb has stellar outing in circle for Louisiana softball

Omaha wasn't giving UL's senior pitcher any easy outs, making her throw 29 and 20 pitches in the first two innings. Through three, Lamb had tossed 57, 42 of those going for strikes.

Despite the high pitch count, Lamb earned her 10th victory of the year in her third start of the season. She struck out five hitters while surrendering a pair of hits in three innings.

Ragin' Cajuns get rematch with LSU softball for Baton Rouge Regional championship

With the win, UL (48-14) advances to the regional championship, setting up a rematch with LSU, which knocked off the Ragin' Cajuns earlier Saturday, at 1 p.m. at Tiger Park.

The Cajuns will need to find some offense against LSU's ace Ali Kilponen, who'll likely start the game Sunday.
