Kobe Bryant jerseys, cement handprints to be auctioned off in April
A pair of Kobe Bryant jerseys and cement handprints are among several of his items that will be auctioned off in Southern California later this year, according to the Associated Press.
The items, Julien’s Auctions said, will be part of its annual sports auction, per the report. Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash outside of Los Angeles last month. A memorial for the two was held at the Staples Center on Monday.
“We are honored to include this collection of his items and pay tribute to this giant who was an inspiration not only to basketball fans but to the entire world,” Julien’s Auctions president and CEO Darren Julien said, via the Associated Press.
One of the jerseys is from the 2007 season, when he wore No. 24. The other was worn during the 2000 NBA Finals — which the Lakers won in six games — when Bryant was No. 8. It also has a black arm band on it, which honored Wilt Chamberlain after his death. The cement handprints are from his induction into the Grauman’s Chinese Theater hall of fame gallery.
Signed Adidas game shoes and a basketball signed by the 2010-11 Lakers are also being auctioned off. The items, which are being sold by a collector in Kentucky, were already planned to be auctioned off before Bryant’s death.
The auction is set to take place on April 30 at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. Several other significant pieces of sports memorabilia will be part of the auction, too, including a silver medal from the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and a gold medal from the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, per the report.
