The Los Angeles Lakers introduce black ‘Hollywood Nights’ alternate jerseys (Photos)

The Los Angeles Lakers will be wearing new black uniforms for “select games” during the 2013-14 NBA season, uniforms that are definitely not named after a Bob Seger song, they swear. From their official website:

The organization has consistently heard from fans that a black uniform was desired, and have been working to make that a reality for years. The Lakers have a long history and philosophy of listening to fans, and as a public trust are in the business of serving fan interest, from colors of uniforms up to the ultimate goal of winning championships. The purple and gold uniforms will forever be the staple for the Lakers, with the black ones adding what the Lakers hope to be a cool alternative.

The Hollywood Nights theme in part acknowledges the celebrities like Jack Nicholson that have long supported the team, but also serves as a nod to the huge number of people that work behind the scenes to make up one of L.A.'s biggest industries.

Unlike most of the recent jersey additions we’ve seen come down the pike recently … these are kind of good.

Now, Kobe Bryant’s withering glare has a way of making most things look good, but though we were averse to the Lakers adding yet another jersey to the arsenal (considering the team’s iconic home and road jerseys, and their less-applauded white Sunday alternates), the Lakers seemed to have created a winner. I’d like to play the curmudgeon here, but I just cannot. These look good.
