Country music icon Loretta Lynn passed away at her home in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, on October 4, her family has confirmed. The singer was 90 years old. The "Coal Miner's Daughter" was a pioneer in the industry and broke down barriers for female singers.

She became the first woman to win the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year and followed up that award with numerous accolades, including three Grammys, a Kennedy Center Honor, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom. Over her career, she released more than 60 albums, 10 of which reached number one on the country music charts.

The family posted the news on her official social media accounts. "'Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home at her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills.' The family of Loretta Lynn. The family has asked for privacy during this time, as they grieve. An announcement regarding a memorial will be forthcoming in a public announcement."

Just two days ago, Loretta posted this powerful Bible verse on her Instagram page. She wrote, "Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
John 3:20-21"

The singer experienced health setbacks over the past few years, including a stroke in 2017 and a broken hip in 2018. Loretta is survived by four children, Clara, Ernest, Peggy Jean, and Patsy Eileen. Two other children, Betty Sue and Jack Benny, preceded her in death.

We're sending her family our thoughts and prayers.
