Lorenzo Cain steals homer from Dodgers with perfectly timed leap in NLCS Game 2

Lorenzo Cain is quickly turning into the Los Angeles Dodgers postseason nemesis.

After pacing the Milwaukee Brewers offensive attack with three hits in their NLCS Game 1 victory, Cain attempted to set the tone in Game 2 with a tremendous leaping catch at the wall to rob David Freese of a two-run home run.

The Dodgers, who would rally to even the series with a 4-3 win later in the game, were bidding to take a quick first-inning lead when Freese drove Wade Miley‘s pitch to deep center field. Cain, who’s made a habit of robbing home runs during his career, was ready for the challenge. He ran back to the wall, measured the baseball and then timed his leap perfectly, making a difficult grab look almost effortless.

Seriously. That’s a great grab that Cain made look way too easy.

It’s a scene the Dodgers have seen before too.

Cain was actually angry at himself on Friday for failing to corral Chris Taylor‘s ninth-inning triple, which brought the Dodgers within one run. Cain caught up to the ball at the wall, but had it rattle out of his glove while on the move.

There were no issues on this play.

Redemption was Cain’s, and frustration was the Dodgers’ again until they scored four unanswered runs against Milwaukee’s bullpen in the seventh an eighth innings. The game-winning hit was a Justin Turner two-run home run that was beyond the Brewers reach. Given Cain’s catch and their own struggles, the Dodgers have to be thrilled to head home with the series even.
