In The Loop: Backstrom's big night, WNBA Draft best reactions originally appeared on NBC Sports Washington
First up in our look around the sports world, it was a big night for the Washington Capitals’ Nicklas Backstrom who was honored in so many ways before the Caps' game against the Buffalo Sabres, his 1,000th career game.
Though the Caps fell short, Backstrom felt the love as Washington players wore No. 19 warm-up jerseys in his honor prior to the opening face-off. Washington also held a pregame ceremony for the 33-year-old center.
Next up, the 2021 WNBA Draft is in the books and here are some of our favorite reactions from the night. It was the first time in league history that a team had picks number 1 and 2 overall, which the Dallas Wings used to select Charli Collier and Awak Kuier.
Lastly, running back Saquon Barkley is looking strong as ever and on his way to an incredible comeback in this video of him training. After tearing his ACL in the New York Giants' Week 2 matchup against the Chicago Bears in 2020, Barkley has been putting in the work while rehabbing. The 24-year-old is hoping to be the heart and soul of the Giants run game this season and it's safe to say they’ll need him to be.
