1997 was quarterback Peyton Manning’s senior season at Tennessee.
Manning completed 25-of-35 passing attempts for 523 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions.
Wide receiver Marcus Nash recorded seven receptions for 195 yards and three touchdowns for the Vols.
Tennessee running back Jamal Lewis totaled 128 rushing yards, three rushing touchdowns, 96 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.
The Vols’ offense totaled 695 yards in the contest against Kentucky.

Following the Vols’ win, Manning and teammates celebrated with the Beer Barrel. From 1925–1997, Tennessee and Kentucky played for the Beer Barrel. The Beer Barrel was awarded to the game’s winner each year.
