It is no surprise that the defense has led the way recently for the Washington Football Team. Entering Week 8, they rank 4th in the NFL in total yards allowed and 11th in points allowed per game. That’s a marked improvement from last season when they ranked 27th in both categories.

In fact, over the last six quarters Washington has allowed just three points. A performance that caught the eye of London Fletcher, the NFL’s 2nd all-time leading tackler and a member of Washington’s Ring of Fame.

“Just some dominating performances over the last six quarters from the defense,” Fletcher told Julie Donaldson this week. “Led by the defensive front, which we expected when you look at all the talent along that front. Chase Young, Montez Sweat, Ryan Kerrigan, Payne, Allen, I mean I can go on and on. Those guys are really setting the tone. Linebackers making plays, which you know I love.”

Fletcher helped the Washington defense “set the tone” for seven seasons at middle linebacker. Now, it’s Jon Bostic (team-leading 52 tackles this season) and Cole Holcomb (sack, interception in Week 7 win over the Cowboys) helping the linebackers complement that star-studded defensive front he is so impressed with.
