Logan Ryan thrilled with Giants’ aggressive free agency approach
Teams that want to win will do everything in their power to win, and safety Logan Ryan believes that’s exactly what the New York Giants have proven over the past two weeks.
Despite being over the cap just days prior to the NFL’s legal tampering window, the Giants have done enough financial maneuvering to sign several key free agents. In fact, they’ve handed out the third-most guaranteed money in the league, much of which has gone to Leonard Williams, Kenny Golladay and Adoree’ Jackson.
“You obviously are telling the fans and the locker room that our upper management is trying to win, they’re trying to pay to bring in talented players,” Ryan said during an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio Thursday afternoon.
“That’s a sign of ‘Hey, we’re being aggressive, we want to put a winning product on the field, and we’re willing to get the players to go ahead and do that.'”
Ryan himself has been a part of that aggressive approach, flying up from Florida earlier this week to help recruit the aforementioned Jackson.
Ryan and Jackson became friends when they played together in Tennessee and the veteran safety knew Jackson would fit in East Rutherford like a glove.
“I think that that offer helped too, that offers play influential money will never steer you wrong,” Ryan said.
“We started three years’ worth of games together. We started AFC championship games together every day in practice pushed each other. I know him, well, I know him and his girlfriend really well, so I just wanted to make sure he was okay and let them know that man, he’s got a bright career ahead of him and it’s just getting started.”
The Giants have done their part. Ryan now says it’s time for the players to do theirs.
“The team wants to win, and guys are willing to put the work in to do that. It’s going to take time and take some practice and some jelling, but we’re willing to put that effort in though and see how good we can be and see how many wins that adds up to,” Ryan added.
