LOCAL TRACKS: Five Mile Point to hold four-race Fall Series

Sep. 22—EDITOR'S NOTE — This is the final Local Tracks for the 2023 racing season.

Five Mile Point Speedway in Kirkwood, New York, will hold a four-race Fall Series beginning Saturday at 5 p.m.

On the schedule for the first race is a 25-lap Sportsman and Factory Stock features; 20-lap features for 600cc Modifieds and Future Sportsman; a 20-lap Four-Cylinder FWD vs. RWD feature; and a 15-lap Four-Cylinder Novice feature.

Race No. 2 is Sept. 30 and includes Modifieds, Sportsman, Factory Stocks, 600cc Modifieds, Future Sportsman, Four-Cylinders and Street Stocks.

On Oct. 14, the third race is scheduled and includes the Vintage Car Fall Spectacular, Sportsman, Factory Stocks, 600cc Modifieds, Future Sportsman, Four-Cylinders and Street Stocks.

The series wraps up Oct. 28 with the Quarter Mile Fall Finale featuring Modifieds, Sportsman, Factory Stocks, 600cc Modifieds, Future Sportsman and Four-Cylinders.

Seconds count

Eleven-year-old Larry Kelleher of Scranton competed in the final NASCAR Youth Series national dirt race of the season at Christian County Quarter Midget Association in Taylorville, Illinois. He qualified for the A-Mains in five divisions and finished first in Formula Mod, second in Senior Honda, Light World, Light 160 and third in Senior Animal.

In the final series national dirt standings, Kelleher placed second in all five classes. He had 337 points in Senior Honda, 20 points out of first place; 333 points in Light World, 27 points out of first; 333 points in Senior Animal, 18 points out of first; 334 points in Light 160, nine points back of first; and 351 points in Formula Mod, nine points out of first.

Champs crowned

Hamlin Speedway wraps up its season Saturday with a regular show featuring all divisions plus Winged 600 Sprints. Also, the points champions, who were determined last week, will be recognized.

John Martinsky Sr. from Clifton Twp. won the Xcel 600 title with six wins and 2764 points.

Other local drivers placed in the top 10 in their respective divisions.

Jakuby Thompson of Waymart was fourth and Dickson City's Logan Mears was seventh in Junior Slingshots.

In All-Star Slingshots, Garrett Chillot from Spring Brook was third, Andrew Turpin from Spring Brook was fourth, Lydia Novarro of Dingman's Ferry was sixth, Factoryville's David Luethe was seventh and Newfoundland's Brad Crandall was 10th.

Brad Gumble of Paupack was third and Skip Keegan from Hamlin seventh in Rookie 600 Sprints.

Joseph J. Smith of Moscow finished second in Wingless 600 Sprints. Moscow's Kate Mattern was fourth, Tony Parlanti from Scranton sixth and Connor Mirabelli of Clarks Summit ninth.

Scranton's Owen Cassel wound up third in Stage One Modifieds. Carbondale's Paul Ennes, Matthew Ennes and Stephen Ennes were sixth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

Fast tracks

Mikey Smith of Scranton won the NY6A Hoosier 600 Sprint Tour season finale during "King of the Can" weekend at Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna to cap off a championship season. Smith had six wins and his brother Johnny Smith IV won the other six races in nine starts to finish fourth. ... In the final Modified standings at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Eddie Strada of South Canaan tied for 10th and Bobby Trapper Jr. from Scranton was 12th. ... In the Short Track Super Series Fonda 200 Modified race at Fonda Speedway in New York, Alex Yankowski from Covington Twp. won his qualifier race, leading all 15 laps, then finished 20th in the feature. NASCAR Truck Series regular Stewart Friesen won the race for the third time. ... In the STSS Crate 602 Sportsman North Region 25-lap feature at Fonda Speedway, Lake Ariel's Tyler Peet finished fourth. ... Jordan Thomas of Harding was the fastest qualifier in 13.914 seconds, then finished sixth in the 35-lap A-Main at the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway in Ontario.
