Local sports teams cope with winter weather

Jan. 19—Frigid cold and heavy snow have made it difficult for area sports teams to get much action in over the last week, but Troy's boys and girls basketball teams beat the weather Tuesday and played the Eureka Lions.

Eureka won both varsity contests, the boys by a 69-23 count, and the girls, 59-10.

Both teams were set to travel to Thompson Falls Thursday night to face the Blue Hawks.

Friday, the boys are hosting Alberton. The junior varsity game begins at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity at 7 p.m.

Saturday, the girls will host Clark Fork at noon at the Activity Center.

For Libby, the boys basketball team hosted Whitefish Thursday night while the girls squad played at Whitefish.

Saturday, the Logger squads will trek to Browning to take on the Indians. The boys varsity tips off at 4:15 p.m. and the girls begin at 5:45 p.m.

The wrestlers are scheduled to be in Butte Friday and Saturday for the Class A dual tournament.

At the Western Montana Duals in Ronan on Jan. 5-6, Libby was 3-1. The Greenchain beat Browning, 54-18, Hamilton, 54-24, Florence, 37-36, and lost to Frenchrown, 49-24.

A tri-meet in Ronan with Havre on Nov. 11 was cancelled due to bad weather. The Greenchain didn't go to Missoula for the Rocky Mountain Classic on Jan. 12-13 due to the weather.

The Greenchain will host Senior Night on Tuesday, Jan. 16, when Whitefish, Polson and Columbia Falls come to town for a quad.
