LOCAL ROUNDUP: Ledford softball beats East Davidson

Mar. 14—THOMASVILLE — Ledford won 13-4 against East Davidson in nonconference softball Wednesday at Brown Middle.

Hailey Hoots had three hits, including a home run, and two RBIs for the Panthers (6-0). Ava Francis, who homered and doubled, Leah Leonard, who doubled and Cassidy Murray, who also doubled, each had two hits and three RBIs.

Leonard got the pitching win for Ledford, striking out six in four innings. Hoots also had six strikeouts in three innings. Alyssa Staley struck out three in 2/13 innings for the Golden Eagles, while Kirsten Hedrick had one in 5 2/3 innings.

Kaycee Lewis had a hit and two RBIs for East (4-3), while Kenzi Cribb tripled and Nikki Beal doubled and drove in a run.

SOUTHWEST GUILFORD, CORNERSTONE CHARTER

GREENSBORO — Southwest Guilford raced past Cornerstone Charter 19-6 in six innings Wednesday in nonconference softball in Greensboro.

Rachel Wagner had two hits and three RBIs while Makayla Stefanik and Amelia Stewart each had three hits and two RBIs for the Cowgirls (6-1). Caroline Christman got the pitching win, striking out six in six innings.

RAGSDALE, THOMASVILLE

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale won 22-0 against Thomasville in nonconference softball Wednesday at Ragsdale. The Tigers improved to 2-3 overall while the Bulldogs dipped to 0-4.

BASEBALL

EAST DAVIDSON, CENTRAL DAVIDSON

LEXINGTON — East Davidson won 6-1 against Central Davidson in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Central Davidson. The Golden Eagles improved to 6-1 overall.

GLENN, DUDLEY

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn won 17-0 in five innings against Dudley in nonconference baseball Wednesday at Glenn.

Christopher Shoemaker had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs for the Bobcats (3-2). Evan Britt, who doubled twice, and Brayden Winters each added two hits and two RBIs. Kale Woolard also had two RBIs.

Tyler Goodin got the pitching win, striking out five in four innings.

BOYS TENNIS

RAGSDALE, SOUTHWEST GUILFORD

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale beat rival Southwest Guilford 6-3 in Metro 4A Conference boys tennis Wednesday at Southwest.

Finch Jones (6-1, 4-6, 10-5), Jackson Harlan (6-2, 7-5), Roman Kemp (6-0, 6-7, 10-8) and Deep Patel (6-1, 6-1) won in singles for the Tigers. Kemp/Harlan (8-6) and Deep Patel/Ved Patel (8-6) won in doubles.

Jack Perko (6-1, 6-2) and Aryan Shah (2-6, 6-3, 10-6) won in singles for the Cowboys. Perko/Alex Toney (8-6) won in doubles.

Ragsdale improved to 3-4 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Southwest moved to 2-4 both overall and in the conference.

BISHOP McGUINNESS, CORNERSTONE CHARTER

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness swept Cornerstone Charter 9-0 in Northwest Piedmont 1A Conference boys tennis Wednesday at Civitan Park.

Luke Ansari (6-0, 6-0), Luke Holton (6-0, 6-1), Tyler Sturgill (6-1, 6-0), Chase Wiedwald (6-0, 6-1), Hayden Connor (6-0, 6-0) and Diego Mendoza (6-2, 7-6 (7-2)) won in singles for the Villains. Wiedwald/Sturgill (8-1), Whalen/Mendoza (8-6) and Everett Smith/Devon Stalek (8-0) won in doubles.

Bishop improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference.

LACROSSE

HIGH POINT C ENTRAL, RAGSDALE

JAMESTOWN — High Point Central defeated Ragsdale 11-2 in nonconference girls lacrosse Wednesday at Ragsdale.

Dixie Clinard had five goals and an assist for the Bison. Adele Kattenfeld, Ava Burton and Hadassah Evans each scored two goals. Joel Martin and Patama Be each had an assist. Irtiqa Khan made seven saves in goal.

Central improved to 2-2 overall while the Tigers dropped to 0-5.

TRACK

AT FORSYTH COUNTRY DAY

LEWISVILLE — Area athletes combined to win four events and placed in the top three in nearly two dozen more during Wednesday's nonconference track meet at Forsyth Country Day.

High Point Christian's Zoie Hembree (girls pole vault, 10-6), Blaine Hamlett (boys 1600, 4:58.95) and the boys 4x200 (1:35.56), as well as Westchester Country Day's Christian Smith (boys 3200, 10:37) won events.

HPCA's boys finished third with 129 points while the girls were fifth with 65. Westchester took sixth in both standings, with 27 points for the boys and 38 for the girls. Northwest Guilford won both scores with 164.5 for the boys and 152 for the girls.

AT ADERHOLT TRACK

HIGH POINT — High Point Central won 10 events to highlight Wednesday's Mid-State 3A Conference meet against Dudley, Smith and Rockingham County at the High Point Athletic Complex's Aderholt Track.

Kamari Westray (boys 100, 10.8; boys 400, 52.0), Matthew Myers (boys 1600, 5.40.5), Lindsey Shaw (girls 400, 1:03.6; girls 800, 2.42.0), Jusiah Jeanniton (boys 800, 2:27.5), Kemari Johnson (boys 200, 24.0) and La'jalen Wilson (boys shot put, 50-11.00), as well as the boys 4x800 (9.37.6) and boys 4x400 (3.53.2) relays won for the Bison.

BOYS GOLF

AT PINE KNOLLS GC

KERNERSVILLE — Bishop McGuinness took second in Wednesday's boys golf match against RJ Reynolds and Asheboro at Pine Knolls Golf Club.

Reynolds won with a 169 team scores, followed by Bishop with a 171 and Asheboro with a 211.

Sam Sherrill shot a 40 to lead the Villains. Jack Freeman each Liam Wolschon each added a 43 while Johnathan Riccoboni had a 45.

OAK GROVE, EAST DAVIDSON

MIDWAY — Oak Grove defeated East Davidson 10-4 in nonconference girls soccer Wednesday at Oak Grove.

Victoria Lockamy had four goals and an assist for the Grizzlies. Katherine Lockamy added three goals and two assists, while Mallie Blizard and Ella Blizard each had a goal and an assist, and Avery Peterson scored one goal.

Carmen DiFoggio made six saves in goal.

Oak Grove improved to 1-3 overall while the Golden Eagles dipped to 2-2.

GLENN, PARKLAND

KERNERSVILLE — Glenn edged Parkland 3-2 in Central Piedmont 4A Conference girls soccer Wednesday at Glenn.

Ashley Lopez Martinez had a goal and an assist for the Ladycats (1-2-1 overall, 1-0 conference). Jeylin Medina-Mariche and Yaneylin Medina-Mariche each had a goal. Cameron Casas added an assist. Kirin Stewart made seven saves in goal.

LEDFORD, LEXINGTON

WALLBURG — Ledford topped Lexington 5-1 in nonconference girls soccer Wednesday at Ledford.

Jasey Terry had three goals to lead the Panthers (3-2-1). Carmen Hughes and Maddie McCormack each scored one goal. Nera Wesleyan had two assists while Maggie Eccard had an assist. Sanna Simpson got the win in goal.

RAGSDALE, ATKINS

JAMESTOWN — Ragsdale tied Atkins to a scoreless tie in nonconference girls soccer Wednesday at Ragsdale. The Tigers moved to 4-1-1 overall.
