LOCAL ROUNDUP: HPU sweeps weekly conference men's basketball honors

Jan. 22—HIGH POINT — High Point University's Kezza Giffa and Juslin Bodo Bodo were selected in this week's Big South Conference men's basketball weekly awards.

Giffa was named the Player of the Week while Bodo Bodo was selected the Freshman of the Week. It was the second time this season the Panthers have swept the weekly awards.

Giffa averaged 28.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 48.4% from the field, 45.5% from 3-point range and 84.0% from the foul line in two Big South victories. He scored 27 in 32 minutes off the bench in High Point's win at Presbyterian on Wednesday, then scored 29 points in his first start of the season Saturday in a win against Charleston Southern.

Bodo Bodo contributed 5.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots in High Point's wins. He had had eight points, nine rebounds and three blocks in a season-high 34 minutes at Presbyterian, then tallied three points, five rebounds (four offensive) and two blocks Saturday against Charleston Southern.

On the women's side, USC Upstate's Isabell West was named Player of the Week while Gardner-Webb's Andrea Martinez was selected Freshman of the Week.



GREENBORO — Bishop McGuinness defeated Burlington Christian in boys basketball Saturday at Shining Light.

John Campbell had 22 points and five rebounds to lead the Villains (14-3), who led 30-22 at halftime. Nicholas Graves added 14 points, followed by Patrick Graves with 11 points and Cal Barrett with five points and 10 rebounds.
