LOCAL ROUNDUP: Bayne earns honor from US Kids Golf

Feb. 27—HIGH POINT — High Point's Jimmy Bayne Jr. has been honored as a Top 50 Kids Coach by U.S. Kids Golf, High Point Parks and Recreation announced Monday.

The annual award recognizes coaches for their contributions to youth golf — including their experience, innovation, creativity, communication, parental engagement, organization, devotion and growing the game.

Bayne, a longtime teaching professional at Oak Hollow who grew up not far from the golf course, last year succeeded Steve High as the city's director of golf. He received his award during a special presentation at the PGA Show in Orlando in late January.

"I'm extremely honored by this award," Bayne said in a release. "I've grown up on these beautiful courses and with this game. Many players have mentored me over the years. As a young man they taught me patience, respect and kindness, the etiquette of the game. It's my honor to carry that forward, and especially to do it here on my home courses."
