Local roundup: Area soccer teams compete in Triad Cup

Aug. 17—TRIAD — Five area boys soccer teams will be participating in this week's Triad Cup near Greensboro and Winston-Salem.

Play will begin Wednesday at Bryan Park in Browns Summit, continue Thursday at Truist Sports Park in Bermuda Run and return to Bryan Park on Saturday.

Twenty-four games featuring 16 teams will be divided into two divisions.

In the Triad Division, Wesleyan Christian will face Glenn in Macpherson Stadium, while Southwest Guilford will take on RJ Reynolds on Field 8, and Ragsdale will face North Forsyth on Field 9.

All three of those games will be at 7 p.m.

In the Piedmont Division, Bishop McGuinness will take on Northwest Guilford in Macpherson Stadium at 5.

Games on Thursday in Truist Sports Park and on Friday back at Bryan Park will all be at 5 and 7, depending on the results of previous rounds.

PTFC TO HOST TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND

TRIAD — Piedmont Triad FC will host its annual Furniture City Classic soccer tournament this weekend in High Point.

Marking a return after last year's event was not played, action will begin Saturday at 8 a.m. and continue into Sunday evening. Sites this year will be Phillips Park and the High Point Athletic Complex.

There will be six boys divisions, ranging from U-11 to U-14, and seven girls divisions, ranging from U-11 to U-18/19.

HIGH POINT — High Point Christian capped off the inaugural Cougar Classic with a 6-4 win against Burlington Christian on Saturday at Correll-Morris Field.

Franklin Cox scored two goals, while Jackson Davis and Brady Hepner each added a goal and an assist to lead the Cougars (1-1), who outshot Burlington Christian 20-12 for the match.

Seth Foster and Andres Perez each scored a goal, and Matthew Cheng and Zane Oweis each had an assist. Drew Kooistra made four saves in goal.
