Midland Valley 6, Irmo 5 (8 innings)

Jad Bennefield's bunt brought home the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to send Midland Valley past Irmo.

The Mustangs struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, then plated three in the bottom of the third to tie the game after Irmo scored four in the top half. Midland Valley regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, only for Irmo to tie it in the top of the seventh and eventually send it into extra innings.

Up next for the Mustangs is a home game Wednesday against Westside (Georgia).

Girls' Lacrosse

Aiken 17, Beaufort 3

Bryn Rice scored five goals with an assist, five ground balls and three caused turnovers, Kaylee McElwain scored four times with an assist, eight draw controls and three caused turnovers, Claire Bishop had three goals with four assists and five ground balls, and Molly Christensen made three saves while not allowing a goal in net.

Next up for Aiken is a home game Wednesday against Dutch Fork.


North Augusta 6, South Aiken 0

North Augusta opened Region 4-AAAA play by shutting out South Aiken on Monday.

Carley Penvose went 3-for-4 with two doubles, Ayla Holmes went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and Sarah Henry had a double and an RBI.

LeAnn Gilbert picked up the win in the circle, striking out six while allowing two hits and a walk in three innings. Eleanor Brummond took it from there, pitching four hitless innings with nine strikeouts and a walk.

The teams are scheduled to meet again Wednesday at North Augusta.

Ridge Spring-Monetta 13, Horse Creek Academy 1

Lacie Gibson went 2-for-2 with a home run, Yara McMillan went 2-for-3, Ruby Powell was 2-for-4 and Miley Coffey was 1-for-2 with a triple as Ridge Spring-Monetta cruised past Horse Creek Academy.

Molly Robinson struck out nine to pick up the win for the Trojans, who visited Batesburg-Leesville on Tuesday and will next play Friday at Ware Shoals.

Wagener-Salley 17, Calhoun County 1

Wagener-Salley dominated Calhoun County in the Region 4-A opener, with Kylee Hooker hitting a three-run home run while also getting the win in the circle.

Allie Davis, Makenley Walling, Jordi Wood and Kyia Jackson all combined to lead the War Eagles at the plate. The teams are scheduled to meet again Friday at Calhoun County.
