Mar. 13—Boys' Soccer

Aiken 4, Midland Valley 1

Tripp Calfee, JT Lee, Marco Diaz and Reid Raintree each scored goals for Aiken in a win over Midland Valley. Calfee, Lee, Diaz and Justin Embrose had an assist apiece.

The Hornets (5-4, 2-1 Region 4-AAAA) host Lakeside on Thursday in non-region play. The Mustangs (1-5, 1-1) host South Aiken on Friday.

Boys' Golf

Aiken, Fox Creek, North Augusta play 1st tournament at Bengal Invitational

North Augusta posted a team score of 609, Aiken shot 629, and Fox Creek posted 664.

Leading defending state champion North Augusta was Luke Johnson, with rounds of 73 and 67 for a 140. Jackson Beggs had rounds of 71 and 70 for a 141, and Andrew Baxley joined them under par with rounds of 71 and 72 for a 143. Tate Huckaby shot 86 in round one, and Sam Wiggins shot 99 in round two.

The Hornets had a team score of 629. Richard Anaclerio led the way with rounds of 76 and 72 for a 148. Benton Orr turned in rounds of 78 and 79 for a 157, Evan Crooks finished at 158 after matching 79s, and Jack Tucker shot 80-86 for a 166 total.

Jonathan Godbee had rounds of 81 and 77 for a 158 to lead Fox Creek. Joel Carroll had matching 82s for a 164, Patrick Carroll had rounds of 89 and 80 for a 169, and Westin Carroll shot 89-84 for a 173.

Young T-Breds struggle in 1st tournament

A young South Aiken team struggled in its first tournament, finishing 29th in the Magnolia Invitational at Beech Creek Golf Club.

The T-Breds finished with a team score of 610. They will face Richmond Academy and defending Class AAAA state champion North Augusta on March 19 in a match at the River Golf Club.

Boys' Tennis

Aiken 6, Midland Valley 0

Henry Vaughters, Joseph Burch, Aiden McElwain, Kyle Tucker and Alex Hammel all won their singles matches, and the doubles tandem of Brinkley Johnson and Jake Woiczchowski was also victorious. Aiken improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in Region 4-AAAA play. Next up for the Hornets is a home match Friday against Batesburg-Leesville.


Midland Valley JV 4-6, Brookland-Cayce 1-0

Midland Valley's JV won its first two regular season games Monday, sweeping Brookland-Cayce 4-1 and 6-0 in a doubleheader.

Caleb Viar picked up the win in game one, pitching a complete-game one-hitter with three strikeouts. Michael Scott got the win in game two, striking out five. Jones Wilhite finished off game two, striking out back-to-back batters.

The Mustangs are back in action Thursday at Strom Thurmond for a doubleheader.
