Liverpool's kids do it again — Reds beat up Southampton in FA Cup win at Anfield

Jayden Danns scored twice and Lewis Koumas scored on debut as teenagers accounted for all of the goals in Liverpool's shorthanded 3-0 win over Southampton in FA Cup action at Anfield on Wednesday.

Southampton wasn't bad and had many chances to take a lead and then find an equalizer, but their finishing was substandard and Caoiminh Kelleher was there when Saints managed to put danger on frame.

Liverpool was coming off a youth-led, Virgil van Dijk-highlighted League Cup Final win over Chelsea, and were even younger on Wednesday as the club is missing Mohamed Salah, Darwnin Nunez, Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alisson Becker amongst others.

Southampton will turn its attention back to its promotion push, as Saints are five points from an automatic promotion spot on the table with 12 games to play in the Championship.

Liverpool vs Southampton final score: 3-0

Goal: Koumas (44'), Danns (73', 88')

Jayden Danns goal — Liverpool 3-0 Southampton (88th minute)

Danns deposits a rebound after a nice save from beleaguered Saints keeper Joe Lumley.

Jayden Danns goal — Liverpool 2-0 Southampton (73rd minute)

Liverpool take advantage of a big Saints mistake moments after Saints fail to do the same at the other end.

Shea Charles was alone at Liverpool back post off a corner as the Reds totally lost sight of him, but he belted the ball into the outside of the netting.

A Southampton giveaway then leads to young Jayden Danns moving the Reds to within 20 minutes of a date with Manchester United in the quarterfinals.

Lewis Koumas goal — Liverpool 1-0 Southampton (44th minute)

At some point, Liverpool's golden touch with teenage talent becomes comical.

Kostas Tsimikas finds Bobby Clarke, and he cues up debutant Lewis Koumas.

Koumas takes a low shot that takes a wicked turn off a Saints defender and it's 1-0, Liverpool.

This writer is terrible at soccer, but if Klopp slapped a Liverpool kit on me in a cup competition at this point I'd fancy a goal against Oliver Kahn in his prime.
