East Carolina earned a 13-7 win in the opener of this super regional. On four occasions in its history, Texas has rallied to win a super regional after dropping the first game. The Longhorns accomplished that feat during its national championship seasons in 2002 and 2005. Four years ago, Texas turned the same trick at home against Tennessee Tech.

First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. Follow along for live updates:

Texas beats East Carolina on Dylan Campbell's walkoff single

A two-out single off the bat of Dylan Campbell scored Ivan Melendez and led Texas to a walkoff win in the second game of a Greenville-hosted super regional on Saturday. The 9-8 victory sets up a winner-takes-all showdown.

The decisive duel at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday will be broadcast on ESPN2.

East Carolina adds to the drama by tying Texas in the ninth inning

Down to its last out, East Carolina tied the game on a solo homer by Jacob Starling. Starling entered the super regionals with just four home runs to his credit but he had gone deep on both Friday and Saturday.

Texas will have slugger Ivan Melendez lead off the ninth inning. The Longhorns, though, pulled the bat of Murphy Stehly in the ninth inning's top half and inserted Mitchell Daly as a defensive replacement. Daly will bat behind Melendez this inning.

Skyler Messinger, Dylan Campbell power Texas to an improbable 8-7 lead in Greenville

Texas has trailed by as many as five runs today but a three-run homer off the bat of Skyler Messinger and Dylan Campbell's solo shot in the eighth inning have given UT the lead. The 10th blast of Campbell's season put Texas up by an 8-7 score.

In that inning, Austin Todd also had a single that caromed off ECU reliever Ben Terwilliger. That extended the sixth-year senior's hitting streak to 18 games. That is the ninth-best streak in school history.

Texas keeps hope alive with a two-run homer but ECU gets a key out

Texas isn't done yet. The Longhorns kept East Carolina within reach in the bottom of with seventh inning. With two outs, Trey Faltine doubled and was brought home on a two-run homer by Douglas Hodo III. With that swing, Hodo became the sixth Longhorn to hit 10 home runs this season and UT cut its deficit to three runs.

A solid effort out of the bullpen by East Carolina's Garrett Saylor ended soon thereafter. With a runner on first base, ECU's Trey Yesavage kept a 7-4 lead intact by getting Texas star Ivan Melendez to ground out.

East Carolina pads its lead on an overturned call

A record crowd of 5,807 at Clark LeClair Stadium had plenty to celebrate in the seventh inning as East Carolina added a bit of insurance. The Pirates headed into the seventh inning stretch with a 7-2 lead.

East Carolina got an assist from the review booth while scoring its seventh run. It was initially ruled that Jacob Jenkins-Cowart was tagged out at home on a mad scramble following a wild pitch by Tristan Stevens. After the play was reviewed, Jenkins-Cowart was called safe.

Longhorns running out of outs against East Carolina

Texas still trails 6-2 after six completed innings at Clark-LeClair Stadium. After falling behind by four runs, Texas has been retired in order during its turns to bat in the fifth and sixth innings.

ECU scores five times in the fifth inning to push the Longhorns' backs against a wall

After a disastrous fifth inning, the baseball season at Texas is on life support. Trailing 2-1, East Carolina opened the fifth frame by getting three runners aboard on two singles and an error by UT third baseman Skyler Messinger.

As Marcus Olivarez warming up in the bullpen, Texas kept Lucas Gordon in the game to face Bryson Worrell's right-handed bat. And one inning after he hit a solo homer off of Gordon, Worrell gave ECU an advantage with a two-run double to left field.

After losing its lead, Texas pulled Gordon for Olivarez. Jacob Jenkins-Cowart quickly greeted Olivarez with a three-run blast off the scoreboard in right field.

Noteworthy strikeout keeps Texas from matching ECU's fourth-inning score

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Texas was unable to add to its 2-1 lead and match the run that East Carolina produced in the frame's top half. Dylan Campbell got aboard with two outs on an infield single and then stole second base. The third Pirate to pitch for East Carolina on Saturday, Garrett Saylor caught Trey Faltine looking at a pitch to strand Campbell.

That strikeout was the 100th of Faltine's season. The previous record at Texas was held by Drew Stubbs, who struck out 75 times in 2004.

Pirates get on the scoreboard as Bryson Worrell joins ECU's 20-homer club

To lead off the fourth inning, ECU outfielder Bryson Worrell broke up Texas pitcher Lucas Gordon's string of seven-straight retired batters. With a solo shot, Worrell became the fourth Pirate to hit 20 home runs in a single season. Worrell is now two homers shy of matching the East Carolina record that Winfred Johnson set during the 1985 season.

With two outs in the fourth inning, Gordon issued back-to-back walks. And as Gordon got out of the jam and preserved UT's 2-1 lead with a strikeout, Marcus Olivarez (1-0, 0.39 ERA) was spotted getting loose in the Texas bullpen.

Baserunning and coaching decisions cost Texas a run in the third inning

ECU went to its bullpen in the third inning and reliever Danny Beal did his job. After an intentional walk to UT slugger Ivan Melendez, Beal coaxed a flyout from Murphy Stehly and had Austin Todd pop up to strand a runner at third base.

Texas should have scored at least once in the inning. After a leadoff single, Douglas Hodo III attempted to steal second base but did not slide properly and was called odd. Despite the odd bit of base-running, replays appeared to show that Hodo was safe anyways. Texas did not appeal the call.

Had Hodo been on second base when Eric Kennedy singled to right field in the next at-bat, he likely would have scored.

Texas and East Carolina both breeze through Saturday's second inning

Lucas Gordon retired the three Pirates he faced in the top of the second inning. On Friday, East Carolina was retired in order on just three occasions.

Josh Grosz retired the three Longhorns he faced in the bottom of the second inning. On Friday, Texas was retired in order on just two occasions.

Murphy Stehly again helps Texas strike first at Clark-LeClair Stadium

For the second straight day, Murphy Stehly drove in the game's first run. On Friday, Stehly hit a two-run homer with two outs in the top of the first inning. Stehly then contributed a two-out single in the bottom of Saturday's first inning that drove in Eric Kennedy, who had singled and then stolen second base.

Stehly later stole second base and scored on an error committed by third baseman Justin Wilcoxen. East Carolina boasts the nation's third-best fielding percentage and Wilcoxen was responsible for two key defensive plays in Friday's opener.

Texas last stole two bases during a 13-3 win over Houston Baptist on May 3.

Texas works around some infield jitters in the first inning

Texas entered the day with a nation-leading .987 fielding percentage, but the UT infield was responsible for some uncharacteristic mistakes in the first inning. Skyler Messinger (.981 fielding percentage, four errors) had an errant throw to second base, but the third baseman was bailed out by a Trey Faltine tag and a call that was confirmed by a video replay. Faltine (.969 fielding percentage, eight errors) then committed a fielding error on a routine grounder, but the runner that advanced to third base on that miscue was eventually picked off by catcher Silas Ardoin.

After Texas worked around those early mistakes, Lucas Gordon struck out Ben Newton to end the inning and strand two runners.

Texas sends Lucas Gordon to the mound in a must-win game

With its season on the line, Texas will start Lucas Gordon (7-1, 2.36 ERA) to the mound. The sophomore southpaw will be opposed by East Carolina right-hander Josh Grosz (4-5, 5.80 ERA).

The designated home team, Texas will use a lineup that looks a little different than the one it used on Friday. Defensively, Murphy Stehly will move from right field to second base. Left fielder Eric Kennedy has returned to his No. 2 spot in the batting order and bumped Dylan Campbell over to right field.

East Carolina will stick with the same batting order and defensive assignments it used in Friday’s 13-7 win.
