Postgame updates: Michigan beats Ohio State by a final score of 42-27

Ohio State and Michigan renew college football's most heated rivalry at noon Saturday in Arbor, Michigan, at Michigan Stadium.

It's a matchup of the No. 2 team (Ohio State) and the No. 5 team (Michigan) in the College Football Playoff rankings.

But more than just that, it's "The Game."

The last time the programs played was in 2019, when Ohio State won by 29 points as the Buckeyes eventually secured a spot in the College Football Playoff that season.

The last time Michigan won the matchup was 2011. Current Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh is 0-5 against the Buckeyes.

Hassan Haskins has tied Ron Johnson's school record set in 1968 against Wisconsin by scoring five rushing touchdowns in one game. His latest score traveled 4 yards.

TreVeyon Henderson keeps Ohio State alive, Michigan 35-Ohio State 27

TreVeyon Henderson has now scored one rushing and one receiving touchdown today. His fourth TD catch of the season came at a crucial time, as OSU kept its hopes alive thanks to Henderson's 10-yard grab on a fourth down play with 5 yards to go.

Hassan Haskins rushes for his fourth TD of the day, Michigan 35-Ohio State 20

Hassan Haskins has 106 yards on the ground this afternoon, and four of his 23 carries have gone into the end zone. He's not doing anything flashy. His longest run at this point is 17 yards. But he's bullying the Buckeyes up front and grinding down the OSU defense.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba tries to turn things around for Ohio State, Michigan 28-Ohio State 20

TreVeyon Henderson's 1-yard touchdown run is what ends up putting points on the board for the Buckeyes, but it was Jaxon Smith-Njigba's juggling catch that was the catalyst. Michigan felt like it was rolling downhill to that point.

C.J. Stroud had just been sacked by a Wolverines' defense that smelled blood and was able to stop Miyan Williams in the backfield for a 4-yard loss on the very next snap.

Dawand Jones comes out of the game and visits the medical tent

Ohio State offensive lineman Dawand Jones' rough day has just gotten worse. The offensive lineman, who has been flagged for three false start penalties today, has come out of the game with what appears to be a shoulder injury. Matt Jones has entered the game in his absence.

Some chippiness followed by a Michigan touchdown, Michigan 28-Ohio State 13

Ohio State's Cam Brown picked up an unsportsmanlike penalty by getting into it with several Wolverines players, and one play later, Michigan's offense was dancing on the sideline. And that pretty much sums up how the third quarter has gone.

First, the penalty, Brown was roughed up a bit while in the end zone, and his reaction garnered the attention of officials. How could it not? He was in the face of several opponents, and he had to be escorted to the sideline by his teammates.

What led to the dancing was Hassan Haskins rushing for his third touchdown of the day. It was a 1-yard scamper.

The Wolverines pad their lead, Michigan 21-Ohio State 13

Ohio State's Ronnie Hickman was able to track down Blake Corum after his 55-yard run, but no Buckeye could stop Hassan Haskins from going 13 yards to extend Michigan's lead. The Wolvinerines attack has been balanced today with 113 passing yards and 190 on the ground.

Lots of pushing and shoving as the second half opens

Ohio State only gained 6 yards on the opening drive of the third quarter, which was notable for another reason: There was a lot of jawing and jabbing after each play.

Noah Ruggles is good from 30-yards out, Michigan 14-Ohio State 13

With 9 seconds remaining in the half, Noah Ruggles made a 30-yard field goal to bring the Buckeyes to within a point at the intermission.

The Wolverines converted on fourth down and Cade McNamara completed a 37-yard pass to Cornelius Johnson as he sped past Denzel Burke on a 13-play, 82-yard drive that put Michigan back on top. Hassan Haskins finished things off with a 1-yard run.

C.J. Stroud connects with Garrett Wilson, Ohio State 10-Michigan 7

Ohio State is not getting quite the yards after catch that we have seen in previous games. Garrett Wilson's solution to that? Make an acrobatic 25-yard grab and simply fall into the end zone. That capped a four-play, 56-yard drive for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State's offensive line struggling

Dawand Jones has two false start penalties. (After the second, quarterback C.J. Stroud came up to Jones and gave him an encouraging tap on the helmet.) Stroud has been sacked once, and Michigan has two quarterback hurries.

Michigan getting it done on third down

The Wolverines have converted their first four opportunities on third down, and the farthest they had to go to convert on any of those was two yards. As the first quarter comes to an end, and Michigan will finally face a third down of some distance. They will start the second with a third down play with 7 yards to gain.

After advancing the ball to the Michigan 3-yard line, a false start penalty and a later Aidan Hutchinson sack of C.J. Stroud pushed the Buckeyes back, forcing Ohio State to settle for a 32-yard Noah Ruggles' field goal.

Momentum swinging wildly early

Michigan's ensuing kickoff pinned Ohio State deep — on their 4-yard line. And the Buckeyes gained only one yard on a C.J. Stroud run during their opening drive. The Wolverines appeared to be in business. A 17-yard punt return to the OSU 39-yard line and a 24-yard pass from Cade McNamara to Roman Wilson had UM in the shadow of the end zone. But then Bryson Shaw got OSU the ball back with his first collegiate pick.

A.J. Henning runs to the end zone, Michigan 7-Ohio State 0

Michigan, on a misdirection play, scored with A.J. Henning rushing 14 yards for his second rushing touchdown of the season. On their opening drive, the Wolverines were three for three on third down, and the farthest they had to go to move the chains on any of those plays was two yards.

The Game is underway

Ohio State won the coin toss and chose to defer until the second half, so Michigan will start with the ball.

There's a 90% chance of snow today, according to the National Weather Service. In fact, there's a winter weather advisory for later this afternoon. Right now, though, there are just a few flurries, and it's 29 degrees in Ann Arbor, MIchigan.

Which NFL Scouts are scheduled to attend Ohio State vs. Michigan?

Credentialed to be at Michigan Stadium for Ohio State's game against Michigan today are NFL scouts from the Browns, Bengals, Bears (2), Lions (2), Packers (2) Giants (2), 49ers (2), Patriots, Falcons, and Jaguars.

Also scheduled to be in attendance are officials from the Peach Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Citrus Bowl, and Orange Bowl.

Plenty of Ohio State fans on hand for Buckeyes' battle with Michigan

There are more than a few pools of scarlet in the stands at the Big House today — once those fans are able to get into the game, that is.

Michigan leads the all-time series 58-51-8.

Ohio State, though is 17-2 since Jim Tressel was hired as the head coach in 2001 and the Buckeyes have won eight straight games against Michigan.

If Ohio State wins, they will match Michigan for the longest win streak in the rivalry history at 9 games (1901-1909).

Ryan Day to the NFL? Lee Corso, Desmond Howard think so

In the first 15 minutes of the ESPN College GameDay broadcast, Lee Corso was trying to prepare Ohio State fans for a possible future.

"Speaking of Ohio State," Corso said started on College GameDay, "Ohio State fans better get happy with him, because he's not going to be with them long. He's going to the NFL whenever he's ready. He's NFL ready.

"Ohio State fans better get used to it, because he's going, I'm telling you."

Desmond Howard, the 1991 Michigan Heisman Trophy winner, jokingly pushed a theory that Johnson mentioned on a radio show that the Chicago Bears will replace coach Matt Nagy and hire Day to groom former Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields.

"It just makes perfect sense," Howard laughed. "The young man needs help in Chicago."

Bob Stoops picking the Wolverines to beat Buckeyes

Bob Stoops said on "FOX Big Noon Kickoff" that the time was right for Jim Harbaugh to beat Ohio State.

“Jim Harbaugh, Michigan football team, they’re due," Stoops said. "I just believe that at a certain time, the percentages, odds get you. And it’s Jim Harbaugh’s time and Michigan's time to beat them."
