For the first time this year, the Brewers lose with Eric Lauer on the mound in a 9-3 defeat to the Marlins

Live coverage: Brewers vs. Cardinals at Busch Stadium

MIAMI - Eric Lauer has not looked fallible much during the 2022 season. Saturday night against the Miami Marlins, it was more of the same — save for one inning.

One fateful inning.

That lone frame resulted in enough damage to send Lauer to his first loss of the season.

The Marlins launched three homers in a four-run fourth off the Milwaukee Brewers lefty, which held up for a 9-3 win at loanDepot Park.

Lauer, who had allowed four total runs over a stretch of four consecutive quality starts, missed his location to a trio of Miami hitters in the fourth and each time they made him pay.

First, it was Jesús Aguilar, who hit his second homer in as many days against his former team, leading off the inning with a solo blast. Jorge Soler followed with a laser shot out to left-center that left the bat at 110 mph.

A two-out single brought Brian Anderson to the plate and the Marlins third baseman made it 4-1 with his second homer of the season.

Box score: Marlins 9, Brewers 3

More: Brewers top pitching prospect Ethan Small is starring at Class AAA. History says a call-up could be coming soon.

Just as they did Friday, the Brewers jumped on the Marlins starter with a long ball out of the gates. On Friday, Kolten Wong ambushed the game’s second pitch from Pablo López for a homer; this time, it was Willy Adames turning on a center cut fastball from Trevor Rogers for a 408-foot homer to left as the second batter of the game.

Also reminiscent of Friday, that would be all the offense could muster against the Miami starter.

Rogers went 5⅓ innings allowing just the one run, striking out eight and scattering four singles after the Adames homer.

The Brewers' only other viable threat came in the third when they had runners on second and third with two outs, but Rogers struck out Hunter Renfroe to escape the jam.

In three starts against Milwaukee, Rogers has allowed just two runs in 16⅓ innings.

Lauer went five innings with the only runs against him coming in the fourth. He struck out seven, raising his season total to 49 in 34⅔ innings.

Miami poured it on in the sixth against reliever Trevor Gott, scoring four runs — though two were unearned — and forcing him out of the game before he recorded an out. An error by second baseman Luis Urías on what should have been a double play grounder sparked the rally for the Marlins. A bobbled exchange by Adames on what should have been the third out plated another run.

Renfroe blasted a two-run homer in the eighth to round out Milwaukee's scoring output.
