SAN DIEGO – No Josh Hader? No problem.

Without their all-star closer for a three-game series against the San Diego Padres, the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen found itself in a taxing spot as the teams engaged in tight contests each day.

The task at hand may have been exigent but, for the second consecutive game, the Brewers arms were excellent.

The trio of Luis Perdomo, Brad Boxberger and Devin Williams – who was pitching for the third straight day for the first time in his career – upheld the slimmest of margins as the Brewers won both the game, 2-1, and the series.

Aaron Ashby, another player having to step into a bigger role due to an unavailable Brewer, delivered his best start of the season.

Ashby has been fluctuating between the starting and relieving this season but with an injured Freddy Peralta set to miss a significant amount of time, he has assumed a full-time spot in the rotation.

The lefty went 5 ⅔ innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and three walks while striking out five.

BOX SCORE: Brewers 2, Padres 1

After generating nothing against Padres starter Yu Darvish through six innings, the Brewers offense came to life to take the lead in the seventh.

Luis Urías walked to open the frame and moved to third on a single by Andrew McCutchen, deftly sliding past a tag from third baseman Manny Machado. Rowdy Tellez drove Urías in with a slicing double down the line in left.

The Padres kept Darvish in following a mound visit and Tyrone Taylor lofted a sacrifice fly to deep left to score McCutchen and give Milwaukee the lead.
