Lions player ejected after cheap shot on Hurts, ensuing skirmish originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
DETROIT — Lions safety and captain Tracy Walker was ejected from Sunday’s game at Ford Field following a cheap shot on Jalen Hurts and an ensuing scuffle.
In the third quarter, Hurts slid on the tail end of a scramble and Walker gave him a head shot.
When Eagles players came to Hurts’ defense, Walker took exception and it looked like he threw a punch at receiver Zach Pascal. That’s when he was tossed.
Dallas Goedert and Pascal were especially heated after the exchange. Pascal eventually had to be restrained by teammates.
Hurts has taken a few too many hits in this game and some of them have been close to being penalties. Walker was flagged for unnecessary roughness for that hit on Hurts and LB Alex Anzalone was flagged for an unnecessary roughness earlier in the third quarter.
Like he did in 2021, Hurts has been using his legs a ton in the Week 1 game, but he’s probably taking too many hits. After three quarters, Hurts has 13 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown.
