The preseason awards and watch lists have arrived.

Tuesday afternoon, Penn State found itself square in the conversation, landing running back Saquon Barkley, tight end Mike Gesicki and safety Marcus Allen among Athlon Sports 2017 All-America Team.

Barkley was the most prominent selection for the Nittany Lions, earning a first-team nod on the offensive side of the ball while besting Oregon's Royce Freeman, Georgia's Nick Chubb and Washington tailback Myles Gaskin.

At tight end, Wisconsin's Troy Fumagalli earned the first-team selection while Gesicki was named to the second team ahead of former teammate and friend Adam Breneman of UMass, and Mark Andrews of Oklahoma.

Finally, Allen found himself as a third-team selection at safety, behind only Alabama's Minkah Fitzpatrick and Quin Blanding of Virginia.

With the three selections to Athon's four All-America teams, the Nittany Lions accounted for nearly 16 percent of the Big Ten's picks among the teams.
