Lions injury update: Penei Sewell returns to practice, Evan Brown still out

There was some good news and some bad news on the Detroit Lions practice participation report on Thursday. Right tackle Penei Sewell was one of two players who upgraded from Wednesday, but another starting offensive lineman remains sidelined.

Sewell (ankle) and reserve safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (illness) were back at practice on Thursday. Sewell remained limited, while Melifonwu, who plays exclusively on special teams, was a full go. Rookie CB Chase Lucas also upgraded from limited to full participation.

Unfortunately, starting right guard Evan Brown remains out with an ankle injury. He missed the Thanksgiving game against Buffalo after leaving the Week 11 matchup in New York early. The Lions struggled against Buffalo with both Brown and left guard Jonah Jackson out of the lineup.

Jackson, along with CB Jeff Okudah, continues to progress through the NFL’s concussion protocol. He was listed as limited but no longer donned the red non-contact jersey. Center Frank Ragnow and DE Josh Paschal were also limited, while DE Julian Okwara is still out with an elbow injury.
