Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tuesday. Miranda created the ethnically diverse Broadway hit Hamilton.

Miranda sees a correlation between his musical about the U.S. Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, and the current call for policing and racial justice reform legislation.

“I'm incredibly proud when I see ‘This is not a moment, it's a movement’ and/or ‘history has its eyes on you’ at a Black Lives Matter protest,” said Miranda. Those popular lines from the musical have appeared on many protest signs throughout the country.

Miranda believes the musical is always going to be relatable to the sociopolitical climate, because it is part of the nation’s founding history.

“What's weird about the show is, because it brushes up against sort of the origins of our country, it just hits differently depending on where we are as a country,” said Miranda. “We're never done with the past. We're never done with the sins of the founders, we're never done with the flaws and the contradiction in the founding so it hits differently depending on where we are.”
