Steve Alexnder evaluates the injury to Damian Lillard, how he expects the Portland Trailblazers to handle him, what it means for fantasy and which players to step up in his place.
- Damian Lillard suffered a right calf strain last week. And he's gonna be evaluated in one to two weeks, per Shams. Now, ironically, Lillard said after the game that he could have stayed in and played had it been a bigger game or maybe a playoff situation.
I find that hard to believe with a one to two week tag. And I'm leaning towards the two week mark for him to come back, and maybe even three. Blazers are gonna be very careful with him after his lost season last year. He's really been banged up the last three years. He was finally getting healthy. The last thing the Blazers want to do is bring him back too early and risk him aggravating this injury, suffering a new one, et cetera.
And guys that are gonna win in this situation, Anfernee Simons, just like last year when Lillard went down, becomes an automatic grab. Josh Hart is gonna get a lot more touches and a lot more opportunities. Shaedon Sharpe is another guy who's probably available on a lot of waiver wires, who is really gonna benefit from the absence of Damien Lillard.
