Licking County trio excel in NCAA track championships

Three Licking County athletes represented their college in the NCAA Division II Track and Field National Championships in Pueblo, Colorado, last weekend.

Northridge graduate Gabe Miller and Granville Christian graduate Dom Nutter each earned All-American honors for Walsh, and Newark Catholic graduate Mary-Brigid Keck completed a banner career with Mount Olive.

Miller, a senior, placed fourth in the discus, throwing a distance of 54.13 meters, an equivalent of 177-feet-7. He jumped into third on his final preliminary throw and added another strong throw of 53.73 during the finals and was less than two feet shy of the personal best he recorded to win the Great Midwest Athletic Conference championship last month.

Nutter, a junior, placed eighth in the hammer throw, throwing a distance of 61.62 meters, an equivalent of 202-2. He had two additional throws of better than 60 meters and was less than a foot shy of a personal best.

Keck, a senior, finished 14th in the hammer, throwing a distance of 55.20 meters, an equivalent of 181-1, and less than a meter shy of All-American status. Keck wrapped her outstanding career with Mount Olive with one All-American honor, three Conference Carolinas Field Athlete of the Year honors, winning seven titles, and 11 all-region designations.
