LiAngelo Ball may no longer play with Hornets’ G League affiliate

LiAngelo Ball, the middle brother of Lonzo and LaMelo, is now reportedly eligible to be selected in the NBA G League draft on Saturday, according to Jonathan Givony of ESPN.

Ball signed last week with the Charlotte Hornets, and was waived by the team the following day. The signing ensured the Hornets would retain his rights and could assign him to their G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm.

However, according to the report, the Swarm no longer hold his rights in the G League because an apparent procedural issue will prevent him from being an affiliate player.

He will now be eligible to be selected by any team in the draft.

Of course, the Swarm could still elect to choose Ball in the draft so he may still end up with the organization after all. He spent the summer with the Hornets and is familiar with their system so the team would likely take him in the draft if he is still on the board.

Ball averaged 9.6 points, two rebounds and 1.6 steals in five games with the Hornets in the Las Vegas Summer League. He was said to have impressed his coaches and teammates during his stay over the summer and could have that chance again following the outcome of the draft.

The Swarm hold the 14th pick in the first round of the G League draft.
