Lewis-Clark State College sweeps Warner Pacific

Jan. 21—The Lewis-Clark State College men's and women's basketball teams continued their winning streaks through the Cascade Conference against Warner Pacific on Saturday at CC Perry Gymnasium in Portland, Ore.

Senior guard Callie Stevens and junior guard Ellie Sander combined for 65 points to lead the Warriors to a 95-73 women's basketball win. Senior forward Jaedon Bradley had 25 points and seven rebounds and senior guard Sam Stockton had 12 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists to lead the men's team to a 93-78 victory.

"I can't express how proud I am of our team today," LCSC women's coach Caelyn Orlandi said in a news release. "That was an extremely physical game and our team did an excellent job of playing tough, fundamental basketball. We found a way to win and winning on the road is tough."

Here's how Saturday's doubleheader played out:

Stevens, Sander set the benchmark

The two guards' 65 points are the most combined points between two players in program history. The previous record was 59, set by Julie Stringer and Holly Wais in 1993.

Stevens had 38 of the 65 — good for a career-high and tied for the fourth-most in a single game in program history. She accomplished the mark going 14-of-22 from the field, including seven 3-pointers (also a career-high).

Sander's 27 was one away from tying her career-high, but she set a new personal best with five 3-pointers. She also added six assists and six rebounds.

Warner Pacific (6-9, 4-7) got the game to within five going into the final quarter, but LCSC (14-2, 10-1) outscored the Knights 32-15 in the fourth to clinch the 22-point win.

The win improves the Warriors' mark to 12-0 all-time against Warner Pacific.

Second half lifts LCSC

The Warriors (12-5, 10-1) saved their best for last against the Knights (2-15, 0-11).

Warner Pacific and LCSC were knotted up at 45 apiece at halftime and the Knights were shooting at an efficient pace (60% from the floor, 57.1% from 3-point range).

Fortunes flipped in the second half.

Bradley put up 13 of his game-high 25 points in the second half, sophomore guard John Lustig had nine of his 16 and Stockton had four points, three assists, five rebounds and a block to help the Warriors get their 15-point win.

LCSC shot 53.1% from the field and 60% (6-for-10) from 3-point range in the second half.

"Super proud of our guys for coming out after halftime with a better defensive mindset," LCSC coach Austin Johnson said in a news release. "Credit to Warner Pacific as they scored at will in the first half, but our guys showed a ton of poise which was encouraging. I thought Sam really controlled the game. Proud to see him steady us a bit when things weren't going well."
