The Pittsburgh Steelers and in particular coach Mike Tomlin have made a point of saying they’re not thinking much about running back Le’Veon Bell, who has yet to report to the team.
But Bell’s latest tweet may get the Steelers’ attention.
On Monday afternoon, Bell tweeted, “Fairwell Miami” with a waving emoji, and we’re almost certain he meant “farewell,” as in “goodbye.”

So the logical question is: If Bell is saying goodbye to Miami, will he be saying hello to Pittsburgh soon?
Bell must report
It’s a safe bet that he will.
Bell told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler last month that he missed football, and a source told Fowler that Bell planned on returning to the Steelers in Week 7 or 8. We’re heading into Week 10, so that timeline was off a touch assuming Bell is indeed bound for western Pennsylvania.
Worth noting: Fowler tweeted about 40 minutes before Bell’s tweet that the Steelers hadn’t had contact with Bell yet this week, so “barring new development in next few days,” the team didn’t expect him to report for its game on Thursday night against the Panthers.
But Bell has to report soon. Under the terms of the collective-bargaining agreement, Bell must report to the Steelers by 4 p.m. ET on Nov. 13 or he won’t be able to play for the remainder of 2018.
Has Bell lost his job?
There were of course some comments under Bell’s tweet from Steelers fans telling him not to bother, because of second-year back James Conner. There was also at least one clown hoping Bell tears his ACL, and quick aside: don’t ever be that person.
Conner has been tremendous. In Sunday’s win over the Ravens, Pittsburgh’s fourth straight win, Conner had his fourth-straight 100-yard rushing game and fifth of the season.
But Bell is special. And even if he winds up splitting snaps with Conner, why wouldn’t you want to make your offense even better? Bell’s return is a win for the Steelers.
