Le'Veon Bell doesn't show up Monday, and reportedly won't end holdout this week

Yahoo Sports

Eventually, Le’Veon Bell will show up for work with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Until then, get ready for a bunch of reports that speculate on Bell’s return date. It doesn’t seem it will be this week during the Steelers’ bye, at least according to two reports. Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Judy Battista of NFL Network said the team doesn’t expect Bell to end his holdout and report this week. The long wait continues.

There have been so many fits and starts to the story that nobody but Bell can say with much certainty when he’ll show up.

When will Le’Veon Bell report?

Bell showing up during the bye week made some logical sense, but when reports on Monday morning said he wasn’t at the facility, it seemed like another week could pass without him coming in.

Bell will presumably report sometime before the Nov. 13 deadline to get credit for this season toward free agency. There’s also the chance Bell could get traded, though that would require him signing his franchise-tag tender.

There’s been no tangible sign of when his holdout will end, however.

Another week without Bell?

The Steelers have missed Bell at times, but replacement James Conner has played well in some games. Conner had a big game on Sunday in a win over the Cincinnati Bengals — making Le’Veon notice — and probably has earned at least a healthy share of the playing time even when Bell returns. The Steelers have seemed annoyed at Bell for holding out and it’s uncertain what kind of reception he’ll get when he reports. Assuming he doesn’t get traded before that happens.

The Steelers have this week off, and maybe he surprises everyone and shows up in a day or two. Or next week. Or the week after that. Or Nov. 13. Nobody knows. Predictions on what Bell might do have been wrong because he has said nothing about his plans.

The only thing that seems safe is that Bell will report at some point, because he wants to be a free agent next March. When that is, and even where he’ll be playing, is unpredictable.
